It’s not easy to find an RV park close in to any major metropolitan area in the East. Fortunately there is a beautiful park in Stone Mountain State Park just outside of Atlanta. We made that our base of operations while in the Atlanta area. Being spring, we had a bit of rain each day, but not enough to alter any of our plans for seeing the area. And also being spring, there was lush greenery everywhere. Stone Mountain is a large quartz monzonite dome East of Atlanta, famous for the enormous carving of Confederate generals Jefferson Davis, Robert E. Lee and Stonewall Jackson. Stone Mountain State Park containing a theme park, an historic square, hotel, golf course, RV Park, and three lakes.
Our ‘BagleBagle’ as our friend Kim baptized it, along with our true, blue Honda Element.

While visiting the Grist Mill, encountered these three young ladies who allowed us to take a lovely portrait
Standing in front of the Stone Mountain sculpture prior to the evening light show. On weekends during the spring and fall, and every night during the summer, there is an amazing laser light show accompanied by music and narration, which animates the figures on the mountainside. Sooo… it was interesting to see how they maintained the South’s reverence for the confederate figures but then pivoted to the ‘United’ States and ended up with tributes to Elvis and other southern singers.
Enjoy the remaining images of the loveliness of Stone Mountain
And I had to throw in this last shot. I noticed several jets flying over a particular area of the sky past the moon (must be a flight path from Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta Int’l), so had to get a shot, flying over the moon.
So, more to come. Love to hear what you have to say about our travels.
