Still resting up from our Chile trip, and waiting for a Winnebago repair appointment with Camping World of Denton, we took advantage to visit and do things with Andrew and Michelle. It was the last weekend of March with beautiful spring weather. So we headed down to the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden on White Rock Creek with Michelle and Canaan (Andrew had to work) to enjoy their opening weekend.   Grima, Mitch and Canaan – Got a wheelchair for Grima as her foot was injured and was hard to walk.     So, more to come. Love to hear what you have to sayRead More →

Michelle works for World Ventures, where she goes all over the world training volunteers to be special ambassadors at events put on by World Ventures for its members. While staying in Argyle with Mitch and Andrew, Grima took advantage to accompany Mitch on one of her training trips to Budapest, Hungary and then to Johannesburg, South Africa. Of interest – Budapest was just coming out of Winter, and Johannesburg was just coming out of Summer.   They stayed in the Intercontinental Hotel in Budapest, with a stunning view across the Danube River of the Buda Castle, home of the Hungarian national Art Gallery, History MuseumRead More →

Just West of Amarillo, TX, off I-40 is Cadillac Ranch (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cadillac_Ranch), an ‘art’ installation done in 1974 and moved to its present location in 1997. What struck me was the graffiti – paint so thick that it has added inches to parts of most the cars. You should know that the images here are unique in that near constant painting changes the details of each vehicle hourly. I’d assume that the paint would protect the cars from rusting and therefore last longer than if left in their natural state, although I’m not sure how long the structures will withstand the weight of the paint. While driving I’m always looking, looking for that next image to capture. Of course, driving on freeways is one of the most frustrating experiences as most the time you’ll see something that, by the time you find an exit and return to the spot, if that’s even possible, the light has changed, the sky has changed, something has changed to remove the magic you saw driving by. That’s why I love to get off the freeway and try out the side roads and get lost a little. And sometimes, I love going right to a predetermined place to see what’s there.   Just past JosephRead More →

Stopped by the South Rim of the Grand Canyon on the way back from Las Vegas to Texas. Also gave me a chance to test out the new Nikon D810 and Tamron stabilized 70-200 f/2.8 lens, along with some low light photos from my Sony A7 with stabilized 24-70 f/4.0 lens. I’ve got to admit, those stabilized lenses are exceptional and high iso quality is getting better all the time. To a great extent, they have allowed me to not have to carry a tripod much of the time, although the old tripod comes in handy with long exposures. The first ten images were takenRead More →

Was in Vegas for a photo trade show (Wedding and Portrait Photographers International – WPPI). Took some time to wander around the strip to take some images.   From atop the MGM parking garage, a great view of ‘City Center’   Another view, I think capturing the essence of the strip.   The Bellagio Hotel creates these amazing scenes in its Conservatory and Botanical Garden area. When I was there they had a Chinese theme.   Of course, the laguna and fountains in front of the Bellagio are world famous.   Moon peeking out over the Eiffel tower and Paris Hotel Vegas style   Close-upRead More →

We had just returned to Texas, where we had the RV stored, from a three month stay in Chile. While waiting for RV repairs we stayed with our daughter, Michelle, and her husband, Andrew in Argyle, TX. Grima was traveling to Hungary and Budapest with Michelle, so I took the opportunity to drive to Las Vegas to check out the photography trade show for WPPI (Wedding and Portrait Photographers International). I needed to upgrade some equipment and generally there are pretty good deals at trade shows. I love traveling through the Southwest, especially where there’s interesting weather. These following images were taken on the wayRead More →
